Irene Bustamante Adams, AD42

AD 42 - Irene Bustamante Adams, Caucus ChairIrene Bustamante Adams currently serves as the chair of the Assembly Democratic Caucus.  Irene has represented District 42 inClark County since 2010, and has served on  a number of legislative committees, including Commerce and Labor, Ways and Means, Government Affairs, and Taxation, which she chaired in 2013. She has numerous awards for her community and legislative service, including  Minority Advocate of the Year, Nevada Minority Business Council, 2009; Nevada’s Women Legacy Honoree, 150 Years of Excellence, 2014; and Community Service Award, Latin Chamber of Commerce, 2004.

A military wife and mother of two daughters, Irene is a business consultant.

Elliot Anderson, AD 15

AD 15 - Elliot AndersonElliot Anderson was first elected to represent District 15 in Clark County in 2010. He has served on the Assembly Judiciary Committee, the Legislative Operations and Elections Committee and the Education Committee, which he chaired in 2013. A former Marine, Elliot has received a number of awards for his service to our community, state and country, including Afghanistan Campaign Medal, 2005; Local Heroes List, Las Vegas CityLife magazine, 2007; and Combat Action Ribbon, 2005. A recent graduate of the UNLV Boyd School of Law, Elliot is a law clerk.

Nelson Araujo, AD 3

AD 3 - Nelson AraujoNelson Araujo has represented District 3 in Clark County since 2014. In his first term in the Assembly, Nelson served on the Judiciary Committee, the Health and Human Services Committee, the Natural Resources, Agriculture and Mining Committee and the Transportation Committee. Nelson also has extensive community involvement, serving as a member of the Board of Directors of Nevada Gives, former political co-chair of the Las Vegas Chapter of the Human Rights Campaign, and a member of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials. He is the Senior Director of Collective Impact and Diversity, United Way of Southern Nevada.

Teresa Benitez-Thompson, AD 27

AD 27 - Teresa Benitez-ThompsonTeresa Benitez-Thompson serves as vice-chair of the Assembly Democratic Caucus. Teresa has represented District 27 in Washoe County since 2010. She has served on a wide range of standing and interim committees, including Health and Human Services, Taxation, Transportation, Ways and Means and Government Affairs, which she chaired in 2013, as well as interim committees on seniors and veterans, Lake Tahoe and Marlette Lake, and child welfare. Teresa has a long history of involvement in organizations to help youth, women and families. The mother of four, she is a licensed social worker.

Maggie Carlton, AD 14

AD 14 - Maggie CarltonMaggie Carlton serves as treasurer of the Assembly Democratic Caucus. A former state senator, Maggie has represented District 14 in Clark County since 2010. She has served on the Ways and Means Committee, which she chaired in 2013, as well as the Commerce and Labor Committee, the Natural Resources, Agriculture and Mining Committee, which she chaired in 2011, and the Transportation Committee. Maggie is active on boards dealing with maternal and child heath, workforce investment, water quality and adult offenders’ supervision. She is a former shop steward for Culinary Local No. 226.

Richard Carrillo, AD 18

AD 18 - Richard CarrilloRichard Carrillo was first elected to represent District 18 in Clark County in 2010. He has served on numerous Assembly Committees, including the Government Affairs Committee, the Natural Resources, Agriculture and Mining Committee, the Judiciary Committee and the Transportation Committee, which he chaired in 2013. A past member of the Whitney Town Advisory Board, Richard has also been active with the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators, Battle Born Parent Teacher Association, and Plumbers, Pipefitters and Service Technicians, Local 525. A father and grandfather, Richard is a business owner, contractor and refrigeration instructor.

Olivia Diaz, AD 11

AD 11 - Olivia DiazOlivia Diaz serves on the Assembly Democratic Caucus Board of Directors. She has represented District 11 in Clark County since 2010. She has served on the Commerce and Labor, Judiciary, Education and Taxation Committees. Olivia received the Distinguished Educator of the Year, C.C. Ronnow Elementary School, CCSD-East Region in 2005, and she has been active in a number of education organizations, as well as the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators and the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials. The mother of three, Olivia is an English Language Learner Specialist.

Edgar Flores, AD 28

AD 28 - Edgar Flores

Edgar Flores was first elected to represent District 28 in 2014. He has served on the Assembly Education, Government Affairs and Transportation Committees. A graduate of UNLV and the Boyd School of Law, Edgar is an attorney. The son of immigrants, Flores has spent the last ten year running and working with numerous youth programs helping students from underprivileged communities prepare for college.

Amber Joiner, AD 24

AD 24 - Amber JoinerAmber Joiner was appointed in 2014 to represent District 24 in Washoe County, the vacant seat of David Bobzien, who was appointed to the Reno City Council. She served on the Education, Government Affairs, and Health and Human Services Committees. Amber was student body president at UNR, and has been active in a number of education and health organizations, as well as the Girl Scouts. She is the mother of two.

Dina Neal, AD 7

AD 7 - Dina NealDina Neal serves on the Assembly Democratic Caucus Board of Directors. First elected to represent District 7 in Clark County in 2010, Dina has served on the Commerce and Labor, Government Affairs and Taxation Committees. Dina participates in a number of volunteer activities around adult literacy, teen pregnancy, and economic development. She is a member of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators and the NAACP. A contract administrator and adjunct professor, she is the mother of two.

Ellen Spiegel has represented District 20 in Clark County since 2012, having served in the Assembly previously. She has served on the Health and Human Service Committee, Government Affairs Committee, Judiciary Committee and Transportation Committee, as well as interim committees on health care, seniors, veterans and adults with special needs. She was awarded the Nevada Women’s Lobby “Rising Stars Award” in 2010, and was named Emerge Nevada Woman of the Year in 2014. She is a business consultant.

Mike Sprinkle, AD 30

AD 30 - Michael SprinkleMike Sprinkle is a member of the Assembly Democratic Caucus Board of Directors. First elected to represent District 30 in Washoe County in 2012, Mike has served on the Health and Human Services, Transportation and Ways and Means Committees, as well as an interim committee on Lake Tahoe and Marlette Lake. He has served as the vice chair of the Nevada Council for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and a member of the International Association of Firefighters. A licensed paramedic and firefighter, Mike is the father of three.

Heidi Swank, AD 16

AD 16 - Heidi SwankHeidi Swank has represented District 16 in Clark County since 2012. She has served on the Education Committee, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Mining Committee, the Government Affairs Committee, the Transportation Committee and the Ways and Means Committee. Among her volunteer activities, she is treasurer and board member of Friends of Gold Butte, and is active in several neighborhood organizations. She is currently the Executive Director of the Nevada Preservation Foundation.

AD 17 - Tyrone ThompsonTyrone Thompson has served District 17 in Clark County since he was appointed to the Assembly in 2013. He has served on the Health and Human Services Committee, the Judiciary Committee, the Legislative Operations and Elections Committee and the Natural Resources, Agriculture and Mining Committee. He was the recipient of the President Obama Volunteer Service Award in 2011, the Community Leadership Award, Las Vegas Soul Fest in 2014, among many other awards for his community service. He is a public administrator and the father of three.
