The Nevada Democratic Assembly Caucus released the following statement from Assemblywoman Sandra Juaregui in observation of National Gun Violence Awareness Day:

One year ago, Democrats passed legislation to lower housing costs for Nevada residents and put Nevada families first. Democrats passed game-changing legislation that prohibits landlords from charging fees to make repairs that keep a rental home habitable, provided an appropriation for rental assistance to protect tenants from eviction, allowed the Housing Division to allocate funds for housing for women veterans, and created the Nevada Supportive Housing Development Fund to allow for the construction of affordable housing.

During the 2023 legislative session, Democrats took action to pass legislation to protect Nevada’s most vulnerable populations including senior citizens who are often left defenseless against deceptive trade practices and fraud.

One year ago, Democrats passed legislation to establish paid family leave for state employees, strengthen labor laws to protect workers’ safety, and empower Nevadans to advocate for better working conditions and wages.

This time last year, Democrats in the state legislature passed a historic education budget that increased per-pupil funding, aided in the hiring of more teachers, increased teacher pay, and covered the cost of school supplies so teachers don’t have to come out-of-pocket for their classroom needs. Each bill passed by Democrats was laser-focused on prioritizing the needs of both students and teachers in and out of the classroom.

One year ago, Democrats passed legislation that codified former Governor Sisolak’s executive order to protect health care providers and out-of-state patients seeking reproductive healthcare against legislation in neighboring states criminalizing travel across state lines for abortion access.
