In an Op-ed Assemblywoman Shea Backus Demonstrates The Work Assembly Democrats Have Done To Protect Reproductive Rights For Women In Nevada On This Somber Two-Year Anniversary of The Dobbs Decision
NEWS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 24, 2024
Assemblywoman Shea Backus on the two-year anniversary of the Dobbs Decision: “Regardless of your stance on abortion, make no mistake: every woman in this country is under attack, because our healthcare is under siege.”
Today on the two-year anniversary of the Dobbs decision, Assemblywoman Shea Backus emphasized the importance of the upcoming election in November, and what is at stake for women in Nevada and all over the country. Assemblywoman Backus and Democrats in Nevada are committed to protecting access to abortion, and commonsense reproductive care. They have passed legislation to combat the dreadful decision made by the United States Supreme Court to rob women the right to make decisions regarding their own healthcare and to hand the power to make those decisions over to extremists.
The Nevadan Opinion: We’re fighting to protect Nevadans’ reproductive rights. And we need your help
Important Takeaways:
- Democrats in the last legislative session passed Senate Bill 131, which protects Nevada healthcare providers and out-of-state patients seeking reproductive healthcare here, and although Assembly Bill 383 was vetoed by Governor Joe Lombardo, it aimed to secure Nevadans’ access to reproductive healthcare.
- Although Nevada is regarded as one of the most pro-choice states, we must place reproductive rights at the forefront this election, as many candidates on the Nevada ballot are seeking to undo the work done by Democrats and revoke protections of reproductive, and abortion care.
- The constitution must protect a woman’s right to privacy and make her own decisions under the 1st and 14th amendment, because restoring Roe is the only way we can guarantee that a woman’s reproductive rights are protected from extremists. Extremists across the country have already demonstrated that they plan to not only dismantle abortions, but all reproductive care including IVF, a lifeline for women who struggle with infertility and they won’t stop there.
- This November every vote counts, and we must elect Pro-Choice Candidates up and down the ballot to protect women and women’s healthcare
