ICYMI: KOLO: Political ad ‘Scare’ gives incomplete picture of Nevada’s abortion law

Las Vegas, NV – GOP candidates for State Assembly have been caught trying to hide their track record of supporting extremist bans on women’s reproductive rights. KOLO news picked apart a republican ad aimed at downplaying their intentions to limit the rights of Nevadans.

The attempt to save face comes in time as it becomes clear that republican’s pro-life stance is wildly unpopular to the Nevada public. Unlike GOP candidates, Assembly Democrats are committed to protecting women’s reproductive freedoms and oppose restrictions that will shame, endanger, and punish women for their personal medical decisions. It is becoming increasingly clear that the GOP will do and say anything to get elected.

Key Points:

• “While the intent of the law cannot be changed without approval, elected officials could adopt slight alterations to the law, which would have a big impact.”
• While none of this has happened, it could. The result would not change the legality of abortion or the 24-week limit. But Nevada’s abortion laws would become more restrictive.
• If a national ban is imposed, the piece of legislation would supersede reproductive protections in Nevada.
