Nevada Assembly Democrats Condemn Supreme Court Decision on Abortion
Las Vegas, NV – In a 6-3 ruling the U.S. Supreme Court voted to strike down Roe v. Wade and Casey v. Planned Parenthood which will effectively eliminate federal protections from laws prohibiting the right to safe and legal abortion across the United States.
“Women have a fundamental right to make medical decisions in their own best interests,” said Speaker Pro Tem Steve Yeager. He continued, “By inexplicably overruling long-standing and well-respected precedent, the Supreme Court has put innumerable lives at risk with today’s ruling. Let’s be clear about what today’s ruling means–it takes our country back to the dark agesand it is an attack on women across the country. The impacts will be devastating. Women’s lives hang in the balance. Legislative Democrats across Nevada understand that and will continue tostand firmly with Nevada women and their right to choose.”
“The decision made by the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade has set us back as a nation by denying a freedom guaranteed for the last 50 years,” said Assemblywoman Sandra Jauregui. “Today marks a dark day for women and this decision will ultimately put the lives of millions of women in danger. This is not the end of the battle to ensure our freedom and Nevada Democrats are ready to fight for the protection of women across the Silver State.”
“I am greatly disappointed by the ruling made by the Supreme Court in overturning Roe v. Wade and Casey v Planned Parenthood,” said Assemblywoman Elaine Marzola. “Today’s decision will have devastating effects, and it is an attack on women across the country that will put many lives at risk. I am committed to protecting women’s reproductive rights and the right to choose”
