Nevada Assembly Democrats Observe National Gun Violence Awareness Day
The Nevada Democratic Assembly Caucus released the following statement from Assemblywoman Sandra Juaregui in observation of National Gun Violence Awareness Day:
“The issue of gun violence is personal to me and so many families across Nevada. That’s why Democrats have been steadfast in our commitment to passing commonsense legislation to make our communities safer. We outlawed untraceable and unregulated ghost guns, enacted red flag laws, implemented universal background checks, and passed safe storage laws. Gun violence is not inevitable, it is a symptom of a gun lobby that prioritizes access to weapons over the safety of our families.”
Last legislative session Joe Lombardo vetoed Democrat-led passed a series of bills aimed at keeping our communities safe:
Assembly Bill 354, sponsored by Assemblywoman Sandra Jauregui, served to close dangerous ghost gun loopholes and protect our election workers by prohibiting guns in polling places.
Assembly Bill 345, sponsored by Assemblywoman Sandra Jauregui, Assemblywoman Daniele Monroe-Moreno, and Assembly Speaker Steve Yeager, served to protect Nevadans by preventing anyone under 21 years of age from owning an assault weapon.
Senate Bill 171, sponsored by Senator Dallas Harris, Senator Pat Spearman, and Senator Fabian Donte, served to prevent people convicted of hate crimes from purchasing firearms for 10 years.
